It should be no secret to farmers, wildcrafters, rural forest landowners, and many others living in rural North Carolina that we are blessed with a tremendous natural resource for growing medicinal herbs! Yet, until now, no statewide non-profit organization has existed to educate and foster communication among the people most likely to take advantage of this emerging market. NCNPA is a new non-profit based in Asheville that will facilitate greater understanding of the challenges and opportunities at the crossroads between commercial-scale farming in North Carolina and the $45 billion US natural products industry. By joining NCNPA, you will help establish a useful "waystation" at those crossroads, where helpful horticultural practices, emerging crop strategies, new regulatory issues, market access tools, and much more will be shared. If we build a sustainable medicinal herb economy in North Carolina, establishing the state as a reliable place where the industry can obtain supplies of premium quality materials and value-added products/processes, then that health-based economy will sustain us!
